Comparative Study between Malaysian Stingless Bee Kelulut Honey and Medical-grade Manuka Honey in the Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcer

This study compared the effectiveness of kelulut honey dressing and medical-grade manuka honey dressing in healing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The study found that kelulut honey dressing was more effective than medical-grade manuka honey dressing in reducing the size of DFUs. Kelulut honey dressing reduced the size of DFUs by 42% on day 14, while medical-grade manuka honey dressing only reduced the size of DFUs by 7.5%. These findings suggest that kelulut honey dressing is a potential alternative treatment for DFUs.

Diabetic foot ulcers are a serious complication of diabetes. They can lead to infection, gangrene, and even amputation. Kelulut honey is a type of honey that is produced by stingless bees. It has been shown to have antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties may make kelulut honey an effective treatment for DFUs.
