Stingless bee hives of the species Melipona beecheii were the focus of this study, which set out to describe their management practises and overall health in the province of Cienfuegos. A total of 22 people were found to be meliponiculturists after a survey was done in five different municipalities. Most people involved in meliponiculture are not doing it full-time; they have other jobs. Based on the results of the survey, it appears that the majority of meliponiculturists have completed at least high school. Different types of Melipona beecheii hives were discovered, proving that the colonies are well-built and healthy.

Key points:

● The management practises and overall health of Melipona beecheii stingless bee hives in the Cienfuegos province were studied.

● Twenty-two meliponiculturists were found through a survey of meliponiculturists in five different municipalities.

● Most meliponiculturists in Cienfuegos province do not make beekeeping their primary source of income.

● A majority of meliponiculturists (59.08%) have completed some college, while 22.72 % have completed high school, and 18 % have completed graduate school.

● The observation of Melipona beecheii hives of varying construction styles suggests that the hives are healthy and adequately accommodate their inhabitants.
