Prepare Your Stingless Bees for Extreme Heat

Here are some tips to help your bees:

● Provide fresh water daily in a bucket or barrel with corks or stones for bees to land on. This will reduce the effort bees have to expend searching for water. You can also place a water dish outside on a table or ensure there is clean running water nearby.

● You can gently hose the outside of the hive or use the “towel in bucket method” by placing a bucket of water next to the hive and draping a wet towel or sheet over it.

● Fill feeder jars with water instead of feed, particularly when there is an abundance of nectar in the environment.
● Ensure there is ample nearby nutrition for your bees to avoid competition with other animals and pests. This will help the ecosystem thrive and support other pollinators and insects.
● Bring the hive indoors: If you have an air-conditioned space, you can move the hive there for the day. Be sure to lock the bees in the night before to prevent them from flying out during transport.

● Create shade: Provide extra shade around the hive by setting up umbrellas or placing the hive under a shady tree. You can also hose down the surrounding area to cool the air and create a more comfortable environment for your bees.
